You get 10 PNG files: 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 96x96, 128x128, 180x180, 192x192, 256x256, and 512x512 pixels — covering all browser tabs, Apple touch icons, and Android home screen icons.
What image format should I use as the favicon source?
PNG with a transparent background is ideal. SVG works best for icons since it scales without pixelation. Avoid using JPG for favicons as the compression artifacts become visible at small sizes.
Do I need an .ico file for favicon support?
Modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) all support PNG favicons. The .ico format is only needed for very old browsers. Our PNG files work perfectly for all modern use cases.
How do I install the favicon on my website?
Place all PNG files in your site root directory. Add a link rel=icon tag pointing to favicon-32x32.png in your HTML head section, and a link rel=apple-touch-icon tag pointing to the 180x180 PNG for iOS support.
