Does the background removal happen on a server?
No. A compact AI segmentation model downloads once to your browser and runs entirely on your device using WebAssembly. Your photo is never uploaded anywhere.
Why does the first use take longer than later uses?
The AI model (10-40MB) needs to download the first time. Your browser caches it afterward, so future background removals on this site are much faster.
What image types work best?
Photos with a clear, well-lit subject — people, products, and logos — give the cleanest cutouts. Very busy or low-contrast backgrounds can be harder to separate perfectly.
What format is the output?
A PNG with a transparent background, so you can drop the subject onto any new background or design.
